From Ignorance to Effective!

August 19, 2010

What happens to us in our life when we first begin something? We don’t know much about a specific subject or functions of a job. We are ignorant. It’s nothing to feel bad about, it’s just a fact of life. When we first get married, it can be tough when we face challenges because we’ve never fixed problems with our spouse before. When we get our first management or leadership position and problems arise, we have to establish how we are going to respond in tough times. The only thing we can do is seek out wise counsel and learn from them. The more you know the better a decision you can make. The point of all this information is that no matter how much you have done in your life when you do something brand new you are ignorant. The only way to avoid this is to never try anything new. Never to challenge yourself or take a promotion.
So, how do we get past this stage of ignorance? We challenge ourselves through study. We train ourselves at leadership conferences, men’s conferences, or engage with other men on a more personal level. To no longer be ignorant is to be filled with knowledge and as we grow in knowledge we will be better equipped to make a sound decision in times of adversity. It is never too early or too late to invest in yourself.
