Be a Man that God wants

God Wants You

Man_Up

What kind of man are you going to be? What kind of influence are you going to be? Where will that influence take place? Life is full of questions and those particular questions can often times be overwhelming. I don’t believe anyone in their right mind wants to miss God. We want to be sure of direction as well as taking advantage of opportunities as well. That will mean getting close to God.

God said that He looked for a man to stand in the gap and make up the hedge for the land that He would not destroy it but He found none. Is that not disturbing? It is not that He didn’t find a man, for the word declares that man existed at the time. It is not that people were not “spiritual” at the time for they were offering their sacrifices and observing the Holy days. The problem was their relationship with God was lacking. They served God with their mouths and not their hearts. This is an intolerable act with God.

It does not take a rocket scientist to see that there are a lot of things in this world that has not changed. There is a large portion of society today that does not believe, trust, or follow the teachings of Christ. Even among believers the views on critical issues such as salvation, maturity, and commitment vary. Some who consider themselves believers do not accept the bible as the infallible word of God. Many consider good works enough to secure eternal salvation as others hold fast to confession while treating their neighbors like trash.

God is still looking for a man who will believe and follow Him. God is still looking for a man who will trust and commit to Him. God is still looking for a man who will dare care for his neighbor and the world around Him. God is still looking for a man who believes that he can positively affect this society. I hope that person is you. That person can be you.

What do you Believe

May 8, 2012

Man_Up

Why do you believe what you believe? Do you know? Where does it come from and what are you a product of?

The conversation started with the concept of how we acquire or form our belief system. Part of our belief system is acquired by what we learn from or are told by others like friends, teachers, and parents. Then there seems to come a time in our life where we go through circumstances and situations that make up the experience of life where our belief system is formed. That belief system becomes the very core of what we base all we believe and accept. If we will adequately assess our own lives we can determine where we are and determine which direction we need to proceed.

The circumstances in life sometimes serve to confirm what we believe. Those times we need just to know that we are on the right track. I can’t speak for others but I like at times things going easy or at least predictable. When God confirms that we can depend on Him for our provision, healing, and salvation and the like it makes living enjoyable. We need these times to make the other times tolerable.

Sometimes the circumstances in life challenge the very core of what we believe and that can be one of the most uncomfortable places in life. It seems that at those times we are in a place with absolutely nothing to stand on. When God has declared to you the steps to take all of your life and then He just tells you to step and after you step you can see, touch or feel Him it is very uncomfortable to say the least. God is now treating you in a manner you haven’t experienced. I really believe that this is a process of restoration that is forming a belief system that must be present in order to fulfill the purpose God has for us.

As a number of people come to the same understanding it is confirmation God is fulfilling what He wants accomplished. This restoration and confirmation allows this belief system to be passed on to the next generation.

Be a Man

Be a Man! Yes that is what I said. Be a Man! But what does that mean? Does it mean to not cry? Does it mean to take responsibility? Does it mean to be in charge? It just simply means grow up and that may include our masculinity being challenged.

Sometimes our masculinity needs to be challenged. Many have been taught that men don’t cry or show any emotions. Many have been taught that men are to be in control and responsible. The extremes that have been instructed in some cases are not reasonable. However it might not be all wrong. We as men are to be the head of the household. We are to consider ourselves the stronger vessel. Somebody must step up and be responsible.

When taken to extreme, the suggestion that men don’t cry is absurd. When taken to extreme teaching that the man being the head means that he is in charge of everything is absolutely silly. If taken to extreme the thought of men being responsible means accepting the consequences for things beyond their control is outrageous. In many cases these have taught as truths.

There are times men need to cry. Children cry when they don’t get their way. As men we should be able to recognize that there are situations in life we just have to face. We would like to think that we are able to do everything but we are not. When we learn how to allow others to help and that we do not have to be in control of everything life gets much less complicated. Accepting the consequences for things beyond our control may seem admirable however it is not necessary. That is not what God expects. He just wants us to follow Him.

Ezekiel was told by God that his wife would be taken from him and that he was not to cry or mourn or act in any way in distress. He was to be strong for the people. He was an example before them. To take that as men are not to ever cry or that men should be in total control and responsible for everything that happens is a stretch. Masculinity should be gauged by the willingness of one to follow God and accept the role He has for us.

There is a time our masculinity needs to be challenged. When God said he was looking for a man that was the challenge. It doesn’t mean that we have to live like the Lone Ranger or not ever show any emotion. It does mean however that we should show some progress as we mature. We may cry just not over spilt milk.

Be a Man.

Do You Believe

Be A Man

On a recent trip to Costa Rica we discovered some things about ourselves as well as them. We say that people in general are all alike. We probably don’t realize how true that is. Although living conditions and climates and color of skin may be different we are more alike than we may want to admit. We all struggle with sin. We all have to make effort to go forward. We all have to learn to believe. We must learn to believe that we can make a difference.

God is looking for a man. God is looking for a man who will care for the world around him. He is looking for a man to dare to make a difference and obey Him. He is looking for a man who will follow through in his actions and see things through. He desires a man who would heed His strong warning and be an example in this life. He hasn’t asked most of us to go off to some foreign land but rather to be who we are where we are and make a difference. He is begging for a man who would be teachable and just learn how to trust Him. He is still searching for a man who would live a life of righteousness and holiness before Him and one who would walk the walk of faith before others. God is searching for a man who will be what God wants for him to be, when God wants him to be it and where He wants him to be. What He is searching for is someone who will give himself wholly to God. Paul said that we were to give ourselves as a living sacrifice which was our reasonable service.

In the eleventh chapter of Ezekiel we find an interesting portion of scripture. God has given Ezekiel some words to speak about destruction and then later telling that he would restore. It is what happens in between those two statements that is interesting. Ezekiel said that while he spoke Benaiah’s son died. Ezekiel fell on his face and cried with a loud voice and said God will you destroy them all? Then it was that God said he would restore.

God is looking for a man who will stand in the gap and make up the hedge for the land that He would not destroy it. Ezekiel is the man that God is looking for. His life proves it. His actions declare it and God is pleased. Again in the 37th chapter in the valley of dry bones we find Ezekiel just being the man that God wants him to be and He promises great things to be accomplished.

I’m convinced that with God’s help you also can be that man. Only believe that you can be that man.

I don’t know that anything else needs to be said. Simply know this.

You can be a man!

We recently took a trip to Costa Rica. This is a picture of a Sunday School class at one of the churches we visited there. Upon our return I began to think seriously. It is all about influence. The integrity that we live with as well as the purpose and balance our lives show rubs off on others. Determine to make a difference.

This is worth posting again.

Man_Up and BE A Man

Influence is one of the most important attributes we can possess. It is the means by which we affect the people and world around us. Our influence is manifest both positive and negative so we must really be careful how we use it.

Most everyone by now has heard the statement that leadership is influence. That is a very powerful statement. Because of the potential impact we possess we need to consider very diligently the direction we are going and what it will do for others. We must be grounded or settled in what we believe.  What we believe is going to determine which direction we are going to go, how we plan on getting there, and who we plan on taking with us. Once we are settled on what we believe the follow up is easier. As we begin to move others begin to buy in and follow. One of the cool things is the ones who are following often help to define the specific direction and mode of transportation for reaching the goal. It is called leadership but it is based on influence.

The word of God says that two is better than one. If one be overtaken there is protection with a second. If one gets cold there is warmth with a second suggesting comfort from obstacles. He declares that there is safety and direction in a counsel of multitudes. Influence is one way to describe it but it all starts with relationship. A healthy relationship opens the door and allows the presentation of opportunity to assert influence.

Use your attributes such as being responsible, living a balanced life, knowing your purpose, being a person of integrity, and being a person of faith to positively influence the lives of others.

One of the biggest challenges I have faced in living a consistent, balanced life for Christ is being able to accept the challenges that continue to come my way. For some reason, that has been one of the hardest things for me to conquer and learn how to accept in this life. I know that life is a marathon and not a sprint. I just can’t seem to grasp at times the correlation between continued challenge and progress. I will consider that I am not the only one.

Let’s consider it this way. Monday is for a lot of people the most hated day of the week. It is the day traditionally that the new work week begins. It just happens to fall the day after the day we have celebrated the accomplishments of the previous week or been involved in something we enjoyed or in some cases it represents the return to situations, relationships, and circumstances that are uncomfortable. Monday has become for some a day of challenge. No matter how much we accomplished last week we must start all over to try to accomplish more. If we did not meet the expectations last week that makes this week’s demands even more demanding. The challenges of life are not only confined to the work place. Our homes, marriages, children, extended family, church, friends, possessions, the poor, other charitable organizations all scream for more attention. The challenges can be overwhelming.

Let me start by suggesting that we learn how to call a quick time out each day to spend some time with God. Try the two-minute tie-in that simply means take a couple of minutes and read a scripture and let God speak and talk back to Him. Listen to what He is saying and if you think He is not saying anything profound that is okay. Just know that He is. The word says that those who come to Him must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

We all want to see progress. We all can learn how to live a balanced life. We must learn how to spend appropriate time with God.

That means learning how to call time out and take control of our life by allowing God to have control.

Have you given your all

Give your all. We know it is important to live a balanced life. We know it is important to be faithful. We know it is important to be devoted to consistent bible study. We even talk about commitment but what about giving our all.

This morning while walking I was thinking about some of the situations that life had seem to direct my way and how I was going to handle them. My thoughts took me to drawing a line and setting a date and saying this is as far as I am going. Immediately that thought was challenged in my mind by the question of whether that thought was right. If I have told God that I would go wherever He wants me to go and that I would do whatever He wanted me to do, is it a contradiction to say this is as far as I am willing to go? I am challenged. At this point in my life I didn’t expect to be placed in this situation. I expected the steps of a righteous man being ordained of God meant all things falling into place.

I can’t answer for others but I don’t want to miss God. My expectation of what life would be has been much different than what I thought. The direction God has chosen for me has been difficult at times. I am encouraged however that through all the life changes God has been faithful. In the end we will discover that it is about fulfilling His purpose.

We can succeed. We can overcome. It will be worth it. God will come through for us.

On a recent trip to Costa Rica one of the things that caught our attention was the housing. I ranged from very nice  to somewhat questionable. When you read articles that try to sell you on travel to other areas of the world there are things that seem to be omitted. There are some really interesting lessons to be learned from visiting other places. There are things we need to see and things we need to experience in order to keep our lives in proper perspective. God is very good to all regardless of the way things may appear. Trust God for what He wants to do in your life.

Give yourself as a living sacrifice.
