Do what is RIGHT

Here's the Man Book Cover

Do what is RIGHT

Doing what is right can be a challenging endeavor when we are put in stressful and strenuous situations. One of the most common temptations it seems is to quit. The parable of the seed and sower is seed that didn’t produce because one situation or another caused them to quit or give up. When we lose sight of the goal or become frustrated because of persistent failure it is easy to succumb to the temptation to turn and look for some relief. Even John the Baptist if you recall sent word to Jesus from prison asking are you the one or should we look for another. Do what is right and stay hooked up.

I recall the words of a wise man who once told me “if you are going to stop don’t start and if you are going to stop don’t start.” I took them as a wise statement to remember at the time. I have even made it a point to intentionally look at them from time to time. Incorporating them as rule to live by has been sometimes difficult. The challenges and difficulties in this life have been more than I have wanted to bear at times. That’s life. Be a man.

Ezekiel was warned early on by God that he was being given an extraordinary task. Excuses were not going to be tolerated. The message was going to be plain and direct. If he waivered with the message and they died in their sin, he would be held responsible. His emotions would be tried. His compassion for others would be put to the test. His anger would be tempted. The requirement for him would be to finish the task.

Situations and circumstances in this life seem to try to interrupt the tasks that we engage in. Emotions can get in the way. We do not want to appear to not be compassionate. We must be careful about allowing anger a place. Being pulled in so many directions will cause you to think about terminating the mission. Focus on the task at hand. Learn to recognize and appropriately deal with distractions. Finish what you have started.

Every successful person has had to deal with the distractions of life and every successful person has met the requirement of overcoming things that were meant to detour them. It is through the challenges of life that we are able to progress to the success that God wants in our lives. Challenges in life are not only possible but they are necessary for our growth.

Start and don’t stop.

Stay focused. Stay connected. Stay linked with God.

Discipline and Obedience

January 15, 2013

Discipline and Obedience

Discipline is the focus and obedience is the key. Two words that are often quoted and misunderstood and quite frankly may very well be overused because their importance is overlooked. These two attributes are absolutely imperative for our spiritual growth and are the fundamental foundation for our spiritual maturity. They are a must if we are going to succeed in becoming what God wants us to be.

After we come to a knowledge of our need of a savior and act on that by repenting and calling on the name of Jesus and accepting Him as becoming sin for us and receiving Him as the salvation of our souls and believing on Him we embark on a journey of continuing to be changed as we learn from God’s word and begin to apply it to our lives. We must be very careful and not become arrogant in our thinking and forget that we all are expected to continue to grow and that none of us have arrived or know all. God has a plan for all of our lives and if we will trust Him we will be able to fulfill both His will and His purpose in our lives.

The road we are called to travel has the potential to be trying to say the least. Parts of the road will be easier than others. There may very well be times that we might not recognize the road we are on because of the difficulties we face. God takes us through a journey of establishing what we are to do. There are some things He will establish in our lives as a foundation so He can take us further. He will begin to develop in our lives some areas such as being attentive, being content, learning forgiveness, allowing gratefulness, and trusting in His security. This foundation is the beginning of His fullness being established in us.

These foundational attributes that God is developing in us are disciplines and they are necessary changes that are contrary to our human nature. Because they are contrary to our natural human tendencies or nature the only way they are taken on to advocate substantial change is by obedience. I don’t know about you but for me that is one of the truths about God that revolutionized my life. I know that I was changed when I accepted Christ. There was a marked and dramatic difference. However what was also evident was that I still needed to grow and part of that growth was my responsibility. Obedience is the only way we learn Discipline.

Trust God. Follow God. Be changed. Learn His disciplines by becoming willingly obedient.

Childrens Worker Conference

If we are going to fulfill or succeed in our efforts for Christ we are going to have to be sold out to the responsibility of Church growth and committed to the fulfillment of maturity. Probably before we make those decisions there are some things we have to accept. We must accept we are here for a purpose. We must accept that we have the potential in Christ to facilitate change. In other words God has placed us on this earth to make a positive difference in the lives of other people. We have in us through Christ the potential to change the course of history. Sins can be forgiven. The lowly can be lifted up. The sick can be healed.

The possibility of speaking into the lives of others is generally orchestrated through relationships. We must see ourselves and others in Christ as family. It is easier to sacrifice or submit when we understand that we all belong to Christ when we are His. Relationship means experiencing the ups and downs of life together. Relationships make it possible to affect the lives of others.

Being a part of a family affords some benefits. Heirs generally are family members. Once in a while someone outside will be remembered because of something they have done but for the most part heirs are family members. Safety, protection, peace, and happiness are also attributes of family.

Family requires some responsibility as well. We learn what we can share and what we must keep to ourselves. We learn who we can depend on and who we keep at arms’ length. We learn how to cooperate. We learn how to submit. We learn how to communicate and compete also.

All of us can recall someone who poured themselves into our lives. Because of that we should not have any reservations of doing the same for someone else. There are people searching for someone who will not do things for them but give some encouragement along the way. Don’t be afraid to be involved with others. They are just like you, created to serve.

What we have to give.

January 11, 2011

We all wonder at times why things are happening the way they are happening. There are times we question if God is really on our side. We all believe that if we had more we could do more and if things didn’t come against us at the most inopportune time we could accomplish more. We will not have a lot of control over when and where circumstances seem to obstruct our path. We could and would possibly do more if we had more and there is no right or opportune time for opposition. Realistically the time is always now and that is when things happen. Just be assured of this. God is now and always on your side.
As we search the scriptures we find that all men of God have had to face and endure their share of misfortune or opposition. Some men have even been taken from this life before receiving the promise yet it didn’t detour them. God promised He would never leave us nor forsake us and His word goes on to say that all things work together for good to them who love Him and are called according to His purpose.
Each step of a righteous man is ordered of God. It is important for us to understand that God will tell us each step to be taken. It is equally important to accept that God uses each of those steps to confirm His leading us to that place of righteousness in Him. May we discover how to follow God in such a manner that we can hear Him say “well done.”

Victory ahead

January 5, 2011

This could be the year that we realize our biggest victory yet in God. This could be the time that the one thing we have been praying and seeking for comes to pass. True victory is first experienced in one’s self and that experience may very well be determined by one choice. Man_Up
The term Man_up is simply a reference to the act of becoming the person God wants you to be and voluntarily, because of a sovereign decision, choosing to cooperate in the processes necessary for that transformation to be completed. To Man_Up is to intentionally place ourselves in God’s plan for our lives and to be subjected to His dealing with us as sons so that we may make it through on the other side the man He wants us to be.
I will say that sometimes that process may not be an enjoyable one. I probably should say that only after the pains of the struggles are over and the rewards are being admired will it be enjoyable. No hardship for an extended period of time is enjoyable. We don’t need to confuse ourselves by trying to convince one another that it is. Sometimes it will seem as a testing of our level of tolerance for there will not appear to be any understandable or explainable reason for the pain. There are some things that are supposed to hurt. If they don’t there is something wrong. We must learn to see through the pain. We must have vision enough to look past the circumstances. We could probably agree that Jesus was going through a tough situation the last week of His life here. In the garden He cried, “if it be possible let this cup pass from me.” On the cross He cried, “why hast thou forsaken me.” However He finished both by giving Himself over to God.
In the garden – “not my will by yours”
On the cross – “into thy hands I commend my spirit”
Give yourself to God.
Allow Him total control.
Start today.

Intentional movement!

January 4, 2011

The Man_Up study program is still being developed but promises to be a valuable tool for the advancement of men in God. Designs range from daily studies to quarterly day planners and should be able to be utilized by all. The Man_Up study is a simple systematic approach of applying Godly principles in our lives daily to become what God wants for us to be. This life contains some unexpected circumstances that can cause us to lose our way. We often have some unrealistic expectations that can cause deep discouragement, depression and disappointment that has the potential to scar for life. Even when we know what is coming at us, seeing and recognizing what we are going to face, it still hurts. So is it possible to make it through life victoriously? Yes it is —- Man_Up.

Accept that God has a productive place for you and purpose to pursue that place in Him. Learn to recognize the working of the Holy Spirit in you. Don’t try to be something you are not but do your best at what you are and then recognize how you need to grow to be more as opportunities arise.

At some point we need to learn how to say “here I am send me.” If we will listen there is going to be a specific time and purpose that God wants to accomplish something special in our lives. It is no mistake the time and place where and when God has placed us. When it is time to step up we must step up.

No step in our walk with God need be taken lightly. Each is important. Some may be more enjoyable that others however all of them are important. One of my least favorites is preparation. That is where most of the work is and without it reward or accomplishment is much more of a monumental task. Learn how to prepare. It will make life much easier. As a matter of fact preparation is necessary for rest.

It is possible to bring some sense of sanity to this otherwise chaotic cycle of unexpected circumstances and catastrophes called life. We don’t have to be moved by every wind of doctrine nor tossed emotionally by every new experience. Daily put yourself in the place to hear and receive from God. Man_Up

What A Man!

November 8, 2010

We must learn to view this life that we are leading in proper perspective. We are looking to
stand before God when it is all over and hear him say, “well done.” Those two words could be likened
to “wow, what a man.” When we hear those words it will be the compliment of compliments. It will be
the one we’ve been waiting for and hearing that will make it worth all we’ve had to go through. I say it
will be worth it all because this life is challenging mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Paul
said he was beaten, left for dead, lied about, lied to, hated, imprisoned, and otherwise mistreated, but
still was able to say that he fought a good fight and finished the course. Let’s fight the good fight of faith
and finish the course.
We have all been subjected to the unfair tragedies of this life. Neither the number of injustices
nor the intensity of those injustices will determine our reward in heaven. The only thing that will matter
is how we deal with those unexpected and often undeserved situations that we may face. Keep things in
proper perspective. Determine that regardless of what happens, you will follow God. That is what He
wants. The Word says in the book of John that “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk
in the truth.”
As you continue through this life may you recognize that the things you are subjected to are
there for you to overcome. May you realize that the circumstances you face are there for God to prove
you and that He wants to bless you. Jesus said that He came that we may have life and have it more

Changing a life!

October 27, 2010

God is looking for a man to make up the hedge and stand in the gap. He is looking for a man who
is willing to make a difference. He is looking for one who would dare care about the world around him.
He is looking for someone who is willing to combat the conceits and deceitfulness of this world and obey
I understand that this subject crosses gender lines, but I really feel strongly that it is important
for men in particular to know who they are, what they are doing, where they are going, and who they
are taking with them. As a man in this world, I have learned the importance of maintaining a godly life.
As a husband, I have recognized the importance of the many aspects needed to contribute to a
successful marriage. As a father of sons, I have learned to respect the importance of raising young men
with right priorities. As a pastor, I have witnessed firsthand the successes and the failures of men.

Personally I feel drawn to somehow make a difference in the lives of others. The importance of
godly men in today’s society must never be overlooked. God is looking for a man, for someone to be a

Positive Influence!

October 21, 2010

One of the hardest things in life to deal with is the emotional roller coaster ride as a result of the
difference in the expectations produced by our faith and the unrealistic results sometimes experienced.
It is often times downright devastating. The pain is real. The disappointment is real. The hurt is real. So
how do we deal with it?
Personally I believe we have two purposes to fulfill in life. One is to find Christ as our savior and
our name to be written in the Lamb’s book of Life. The second is to somehow positively affect the lives of
others in this life. Because of this purpose it is imperative we know how to deal with the ups and downs
of life. There are some verses of scripture we must find and learn and allow to become real to us. God
promised that He would never leave us or forsake us. He promised He would never allow anything to
come against us that we couldn’t handle but with every temptation would make a way of escape. He
promised that all things would work together for our good. However, in order for these things to be
experienced there is a requirement. We must be faithful.
That is where the Man_Up plan comes in. the Man_Up plan currently being developed is
designed to keep us focused as well as challenged daily to establish normalcy to the ups and downs of
life. We will find tribulation in this life. Jesus said “be of good cheer for I have overcome the world.”
Because of that we can also. Stay faithful. Stay true.
