The challenge of the day

October 11, 2011

There is time in each of our lives that we need to be ready to step to the next level. The waves of life can be challenging. There are a number of challenges that we face in this life. Some of them are hard and some are down right devastating to say the least. How we handle or deal with the difficulties in life as well as the successes is important. Both have the potential to hold us back. That statement may come as a surprise but it is true.

We recognize that Ezekiel sees the glory of God and is successful in obeying God in the work that He has for him. What is often overlooked is the fact that he had to be forcefully removed from the presence of God and was angry for the removal. Ezekiel chapter three and verse fourteen says “The Spirit then lifted me up and took me away, and I went in bitterness and in the anger of my spirit, with the strong hand of the LORD on me.” He liked what he saw and enjoyed what God was doing in his life. He was learning and felt as though he was growing and in the center of God’s will and he was right except when it was time to go it was time to go. It is the same for us.

The temptation to not move during times of difficulties is just as real. Nothing affects our lives like discouragement. It will make you complacent because you get tired of asking for relief. It will make you angry because you will entertain that God has lied to you and left you. It is possible to be so afraid of failing that we are afraid to move. It is real and regardless of how strong we think we are we are vulnerable. Job may have said “even though God slay me I’ll still praise Him”, however he came to a place that he cursed the day he was born and we are not exempt. Thank God we serve a real live God that does care.

The temptation is to be scared or content and not move. The challenge is to be in tune with the voice of God and sensitive to His Spirit and willing to move as God directs. Trust is an issue that must be addressed. Encouragement is a key ingredient that must be found. Daily devotions will be discovered as beneficial to find direction. God’s purpose can  be discovered.

Accept the challenge.

What does God want

October 1, 2011

There are some very beautiful places in the world. Some are very accessible while others are in the most remote areas.

God is looking for a man who is willing to go where He asks him to go and do what He asks him to do and say what He asks him to say. Some of the requests God has for us seem easily understood. A few of them may even seem able to be accomplished from the onset. Some however will seem not so easy to see or understand and we may even wonder how God is going to work things out.

What I mean by understanding is this. Our confidence in following or obeying God is based on our ability to communicate with God. I am not referring to talking to God. I am referring to talking, listening and understanding God. If we are able to communicate successfully with God the odds of our accomplishing the tasks increase dramatically.

The hard part is there seems to be too many obstacles. Some we have control over and others we don’t . We just have to remain faithful in spending adequate time with Jesus. We may make mistakes. We may even consider ourselves as failures at times. That is life and we are going to have to be okay with it. God is on our side. He is for us and not against us. We can make it.

Trust God

On the way to the pacific ocean at Jaco from San Jose’ Costa Rica we stopped at the bridge over the Rio Grande River close to the coast. The driver asked if we would like to stop and we said yes. We didn’t know that there would be alligators. It doesn’t surprise me I just wasn’t thinking about alligators. Often times in life as we are going along with our every day routines and even some new adventures we don’t think about the possibilities or dangers that may exist. The truth of the matter is we can’t think of everything. We must trust God. Through the holy spirit He promised to guide us, teach us, and bring to our remembrance things that He has said. Sometimes we just need a reminder.

Follow God’s Leading

September 28, 2011

Have you ever considered the many ways God speaks to those who will listen?

Or maybe by chance have you considered how many different ways He leads those who choose to follow Him. I by no means declare to have all the answers. Neither do I claim to understand everything. However I do know this. God knows where He is taking each of us and He is well able to get us to that spot.

I find in the word that His direction came as a directive, a necessity, an option, and as an unwanted forced participation. Each of us have experienced all of those things happen in our lives. So how are we to know what God is saying and when He is saying it? How are we supposed to know what to accept and what to resist? That is a good question.

I suppose that is what makes this a walk of faith. I am fully convinced at this point that sometimes we don’t know the answer. We just know what is in our heart. We allow the feelings and emotions involved with the experiences we encounter often times to cloud our sensitivity and interrupt our ability to think clearly. We just know we don’t want to hurt any more. We just know we don’t want to miss God. We just know we don’t want to guess on what to do and it messes with us.

So how does God lead? Even better how do you know how to follow? Do what you can. Don’t be too disappointed when you face things beyond your control. There will be things that you absolutely are required to participate in and some of them you may not be given a choice. Part of life you will even enjoy. Stay faithful. Establish yourself and maintain a life of holiness. Above all trust God.

Stay hooked up

September 25, 2011

What a day to be alive. What a day to be saved. What a day to be called. We should above all things do our best to stay optimistic. I understand that every day is not a honeymoon even as a Christian and there are things we have no control over. Just try to remember to keep things in proper perspective. We may not be in control however the one who is promised to never leave us nor forsake us. Trust Him.

When called of God for any particular area of service we have a tendency to have high expectations concerning accomplishments. If you are called to pastor you expect to see church growth. If you are called to the office of evangelist you would expect people to be saved. If you are called to witness you would expect that as you were faithful doors would continue to open. If you were given the gift of healing you would expect to see people healed. Such expectations are normal. With any calling that involves positively affecting the lives of others one should expect to be accepted. That just comes with our influence of others.

What do you do when you know the words that you are have to speak is not words that will be joyously made over? Do you sugar coat them? Do you hold back? Do you work on being accepted first? Or do you bow your neck and plow forward. Sometimes as a preacher you may prepare yourself for no shouting. As a business man you may prepare for a cold shoulder. As a parent you will face times of no words or harsh words and later have to forgive and forget. As a spouse you may face manipulation and other deceitful means that you never dreamed you would face. As you find yourself facing such odds and believing drastic means are needed to prevail, you must be a man who expects to not be accepted. You must be a man who will stand for what is right. You must overcome. You must be willing to trust God regardless of what might happen.

Ezekiel said he looked and saw a hand with a scroll and on the scroll was written front and back words of lament and mourning and woe. He knew the task would not be easy. He knew his only refuge was God. In Him he did trust. And so can you.

Be a man who knows God is on his side. Be a man who knows he can succeed regardless of what things look like. Be a man who is willing to not to be accepted by others. See how God will comfort you. See how God will bless you.

Man Up-God’s way

September 14, 2010

How do we put ourselves in the place to allow God to have his way in our lives? Is it possible to
intentionally place ourselves in the right situations for God to prosper our lives? Why does life seem so
hard sometimes?

The Man_Up study is a simple systematic approach of applying Godly principles in our lives
daily to become what God wants for us to be. This life contains some unexpected circumstances
that can cause us to lose our way. We often have some unrealistic expectations that can cause deep
discouragement, depression and disappointment that has the potential to scar for life. Even when
we know what is coming at us, seeing and recognizing what we are going to face, it still hurts. So is it
possible to make it through life victoriously? Yes it is —- Man_Up.

Accept that God has a productive place for you and purpose to pursue that place in Him. Learn
to recognize the working of the Holy Spirit in you. Don’t try to be something you are not but do your
best at what you are and then recognize how you need to grow to be more as opportunities arise.

At some point we need to learn how to say “here I am send me.” If we will listen there is going
to be a specific time and purpose that God wants to accomplish something special in our lives. It is no
mistake the time and place where and when God has placed us. When it is time to step up we must step

No step in our walk with God need be taken lightly. Each is important. Some may be more
enjoyable that others however all of them are important. One of my least favorites is preparation. That
is where most of the work is and without it reward or accomplishment is much more of a monumental
task. Learn how to prepare. It will make life much easier. As a matter of fact preparation is necessary for

It is possible to bring some sense of sanity to this otherwise chaotic cycle of unexpected
circumstances and catastrophes called life. We don’t have to be moved by every wind of doctrine nor
tossed emotionally by every new experience. Daily put yourself in the place to hear and receive from
God. Man_Up
